A timeline of the school funding crisis that has been unfolding in Jersey City. The funding crisis has been unfolding in Jersey City for over a decade. A notable event to highlight was the passage of the "S2" law in 2018 by Trenton legislators. The S2 law is explained in the posts below, but to summarize: it codified - in state law - the planned withdrawal of hundreds of millions of dollars of state education aid from Jersey City due to Jersey City's growing tax base (and thus a growing capacity to fund its own local schools with local tax dollars).
