Going Public — This Week's Insights
“We still haven't worked out the best mix of each culture in our own institutions and in society as a whole. How should it look?”
- Mike Gecan, Going Public: An Organizer's Guide to to Citizen Action, page 174
Well, that's a wrap! As you read and reflect on the book, the quote above is a good final reflection...what should our communities look like? This is a question the book empowers each of us to reflect on, and then do something about. Chapter 12 may be a fitting place to say: wherever you are in your civic journey...welcome, you are right on time.

Here are some closing resources that may be helpful, if you want to continue to learn about Gecan's form of organizing through Metro IAF.
- East Brooklyn Congregations - learn more about the organization that Gecan helped build, and writes about, in Going Public
- Metro Industrial Areas Foundation (Metro IAF) - the parent organization to East Brooklyn Congregations
- NJ Together - learn about the organizing that Jyl and I reflected on in this book club. The "News" page has an archives of past actions and campaigns that may be of interest if you're in Jersey City or New Jersey.
Thank you for reading along with us in this book club!
